MR. JASON A. DAVIS, FCI DIRECTOR OF LEGAL
AFFAIRS: Jason Davis spent the early
part of his career
as a representative for several of the nations’ leading firearm
manufacturers, gaining more than 13 years of practical business
and manufacturing experience in the firearms industry before
entering the field of law. He used this experience when he
managed the firearms division at a California law firm and
counseled sporting goods retailers, firearm manufacturers, and
trade associations in California's firearms, air gun and other
weapons-related regulatory compliance matters, including
litigation. From setting up firearms dealers and manufacturers
with appropriate licenses and permits to challenging the laws
that regulate the firearms industry, Mr. Davis is a leading figure
in the California firearms industry. Most recently, Mr. Davis coauthored
an amicus brief in the McDonald, Otis, et al v. City of Chicago, Illinois, et al., currently
pending before the United States Supreme Court as No. 08-1521. McDonald is set to have the
United States Supreme Court determine whether the Second Amendment is "incorporated,"
thereby applying its restrictions to actions of State and Local governments. Also in 2009, the
State of California Law Revision Commission recognized Mr. Davis for his representation of
firearm owners in their Final Report on recommended revisions to clarify and simplify
California’s firearm laws. The Report was created at the request of the California Legislature and
Governor Schwarzenegger, who urged: "[i]nstead of adding to the lengthy and complex area of
firearm laws, a reorganization of the current laws should be undertaken to ensure that statutes
that impose criminal penalties are easily understandable."
In 2008, Mr. Davis, along with David Kopel and C. D. Michel submitted an Amicus Brief to the
United States Supreme Court on behalf of a majority of California District Attorneys and other
law enforcement associations in Heller v. District of Columbia, the seminal case on whether the
Second Amendment provides an individual right to bear arms. Having gained experience in
sporting goods regulation, automotive litigation, business & securities litigation, and
entertainment law, Mr. Davis has developed the relationships necessary to expedite his clients’
goals. After nearly eight years at his previous employer, commuting nearly a hundred miles
every day, Mr. Davis founded Davis & Associates so that he could provide the same professional
work to his clients from a location closer to his home and family.
Education: Mr. Davis graduated from Loyola Law School in 2002. While at Loyola, he focused
on tax and corporate law. He was the Treasurer of the Corporate and Business Law Association
and a member of the International Legal Fraternity of Phi Delta Phi. Davis graduated cum laude
from the University of California, Riverside in 1999 with dual degrees in economics and history.
His undergraduate writing attributing economics as a key factor in the rise of firearms litigation
was accepted for publication by the University of California Riverside's Cornerstone Journal.
While studying economics, he became a member of the International Economics Honors
Society, Omicron Delta Epsilon and received numerous honors and the Chancellor’s award.
